President Biden’s EV Charging Plan will provide $5 Billion dollars in funding for high-voltage EV chargers to be installed along interstate highways throughout the United States of America, as part of the National EV Charging Network.
Setting all political affiliations or beliefs aside, as that is not what this article is about or intended for, I think we can all agree that electric vehicle production and ownership has grown exponentially in recent years.
With a rise in electric vehicles on the road, a demand for more convenient electric vehicle charging stations also has increased. The Biden-Harris EV charging plan has a goal of ensuring that the national EV charging network provides convenient charging for all. If you’re an electric vehicle owner, I can only imagine this brings a smile to your face!
Although $5 billion for EV charging stations sounds like a lot of money, analysts say this will not be enough to create the network of EV charging stations required to accommodate the increasing amount of electric vehicles on the road. However, officials of the administration are hoping that this will at least start a spark to encourage private operators and other utilities to continue with additional EV charger installation.
That said, stopping en-route to charge your electric vehicle can also be inconvenient, whereas having your own Level 2 home EV charger saves a ton of time while out and about!

As stated on The New York Times Biden EV article, “The administration outlined a relatively speedy timetable for deploying an initial installment of $615 million. All 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, would be required to submit plans by the beginning of August explaining how they would install high-voltage chargers along or very close to major highways.
The chargers must be no more than 50 miles apart, and states are encouraged to place them at rest areas or other places with food and other services.”
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement, the money “will help us win the E.V. race by working with states, labor and the private sector to deploy a historic nationwide charging network that will make E.V. charging accessible for more Americans”.

On February 8, 2022 Biden stated, “We’re seeing the beginnings of an American manufacturing comeback,” as he was joined with Jane Hunter of Tritium who announced plans to build a factory in Lebanon, Tennessee, that would employ 500 people.
